| Summary: |
Purpose: To compare the costs of drugs used
daily in glaucoma therapy in Poland: 2003 versus 2001.
Material and methods: Almost all antiglaucoma medications presents on
Polish market were considered. Cost of one day therapy was calculated based on the drug
prices on the 1st of February 2001 and 1st of July 2003.
Results: Generic drug therapy (pilocarpine and timolol) is still cheap
and free for patients. modern therapy is expensive and not easily available for patients
in our country. Among modern drugs only Trusopt (MSD Chibret) is being refunded in 70%.
Conclusions: The policy of antiglaucoma medications refundation in Poland
should be changed. More of modern, effective and save drugs should be available for Polish
patients. |
