| Summary: |
Early onset esotropia is a characteristic strabismic
syndrome. Symptoms of this syndrome can persist in adults and help to make a correct
diagnosis also by negative anamnesis. The main symptoms are: dissotiated vertical
deviation, latent or latent/manifest nystagmus, dissotiated torsional deviation and tilt
head. All the children with this syndrome have optokinetic asymmetry. Although most of the
children with early squint do not show any neurological deases, over 40 percent of the
children with cerebral paralysis present signs of early onset strabismus. This confirms
the hypothesis that early strabismus syndrome is a result of disturbance of central
coordination. Early onset of this strabismus has negative influence on the evolution of
right binocular vision. Patients with wide angle infantile esotropia are in need of
surgical procedure, initially bilateral rectus recession. In some cases further surgery is
required. |
