Summary: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the most common reason of legal blindness in adults over 50 years of age. Wet form of AMD may cause rapid and severe decrease of visual acuity making patients permanently dependent on other persons.
PDT treatment is mostly recommended for the wet form of AMD with predominantly classic or occult with no classic subfoveal neovascularization.
Outcomes of PDT treatment are widely presented in many scientific papers. After one year of observation we present our own experience in such procedures.
Our results show stabilization or even slight improvement of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity
in approximately two thirds of cases, however short time of observation does not allow us to make an objective conclusion.

Key words:   subfoveal neovascularization, predominantly classic CNV, occult with no classic CNV, photodynamic therapy.
