| Summary: |
Aim: To evaluate
the effeciency of 5,0% PVP-Jodi solution antiseptic
action against bacterial flora of conjunctiva in
patients undergoing cataract surgery.
Material and methods: 120 patients were enrolled
in our research. Swabs from conjunctival sac were taken
in the operation room. First – before 5,0% solution
PVP-Jodi has been given. Second – after 5,0% solution
PVP-Jodi has been given. Third – after cataract surgery
but before local antibiotics administration.
Microorganismus were identified with API test (bio-Mérieux)
and their antibiotic-sensivity was determined with
disc-diffusion method.
Results: PVP-Jodi antibacterial action efficiency
is estimated to be 85,7%. Secondary infections has been
revealed due to bacterial flora coming from the skin and
limbs of the lids. Sometimes it can be associated with
the use of surgical equipment during the cataract
surgery.
Conclusions: PVP-Jodi solution is recommended as
effective antiseptic that is used to disinfect
conjunctiva before surgery. In order to diminish the
risk of secondary infections of the operated eye, it is
important to prevent secondary infections by using
adhesic foil in the operated field. |
