Endophthalmitis can have
devastating consequences and may lead to blindness.
Commonly used endophthalmitis prophylaxis techniques are
reviewed here and the results of various studies are
discussed. Proper sterile surgical techniques minimize
the risk of postoperative infections. Face mask reduces
the chance that surgeon and medical personnel are
pathogens sources. Patients` surface flora is most
effectively cut down with 5% povidone iodine placed on
the eye just before surgery. |
