| Summary: |
Endophthalmitis is one of
the most serious complication of intraocular surgery.
Reported incidence varies between 0,08% and 0,26% (1-6).
The most common bacteria which cause acute
endophthalmitis are conjunctival comensals;
Staphylococcus epidermidis and Staphylococcus aureus.
Late-onset low-grade endophthalmitis is often caused by
Propionibacterium acnes. Early diagnosis and treatment
of endophthalmitis is crucial, since treatment
potentially reverses severe visual loss. In this paper
we present general contemporary view on ethiology,
symptoms, bacteriological examinations, differential
diagnosis and treatment strategies of infectious
postoperative endophthalmitis. |
