| Summary: |
Aim: To present
phacoemulsification technique in eyes with narrow pupil
and posterior synechiae.
Patients and methods: 46 patients with narrow
pupil and posterior synechiae due to chronic uveitis or
myotics chronic use underwent surgical release of
posterior synechiae, peripupillar membrane and
phacoemulsification with intracapsular lens implantation.
Operations were performed between 2002 and July 2004.
Rsults: No surgical complications were observed
in 45 eyes. There were small sphincter’s ruptures in 4
eyes, small iatrogenic lacks of iris stroma at 6 o’clock
position in 4 eyes and transient intraoperative iris
haemorrhages in 22 eyes.
Conclusions: Cataract removal with
phacoemulsification is feasible in eyes with narrow
pupil without iris retractors.
Surgical removal of the peripupillar membrane allows
pupil dilatation and surgical procedure performance. |
