| Summary: |
Objective: To
analyse indications and clinical results of posterior
chamber intraocular lens implantation with transsceral
fixation. Methods: 137 eyes in 129 patients aged 18-93
years (mean 58.3 years), who underwent implantation of
posterior chamber intraocular lenses with transscleral
fixation, were studied. Mean follow-up time was 10.5
months, with range of 1-34 months. Patients were divided
into four groups according to indications to the PCIOL’s
transscleral fixation: Group I – patients after previous
surgery, requiring secondary IOL implantation, Group II
– patients after trauma, Group III – patients with
congenital lens subluxation, Group IV – others. Patients
records were reviewed for intraoperative and
postoperative complications and final visual outcomes.
Results: Final postoperative visual acuity was improved
in the majority of cases (76%) in all analyzed groups.
The best visual acuity and the lowest complications rate
were achieved in Group III, which included the youngest
patients (mean age 31.2 year), who didn not underwent
other ocular surgery before. Differences weren’t
statistically significant. Conclusions: 1. Transsceral
fixation of posterior chamber intraocular lenses is a
safe procedure with good visual outcomes. 2. The best
results can be achieved in young patients with
congenital lens subluxation. |
