| Summary: |
Purpose: To analyze
results of secondary intraocular lens (IOL)
implantations.
Methods: From June 1999 to May 2004 in 108 eyes
of 108 patients (30 women and 78 men) age between 22-82
years, secondary IOL implantations were performed.
Present study compares indications, postoperative VA and
complications in these groups of patients.
Results: Aphakia after routine cataract surgery
was the main indication for secondary IOL implantations
in all groups. Scleral fixation of IOL was the most
common procedure in IOL or cataract luxation into
vitreous cavity and in subluxated IOLs. IOL sulcus
implanatation was performed in 71% of post-traumatic
eyes. Visual acuity increased from preoperative mean
0.02 to postoperative more than 0.1 in group with ACIOL
implanatation – 85%, in group with PCIOLs implantation –
70%, in group with PCIOL-t – 79%. The most common
complications appeared in eyes with PCIOL-t
implanatation: intraocular bleeding (18.8%), IOL
decentration of more than 1.5 mm (7.5 %) and CME
(18.8%). CME was the most often late postoperative
complication (22.2%) in eyes with ACIOL implanation.
Conclusion: The proper choice of the IOL type and
surgical technique allows to obtain satisfactory visual
acuity after operation and acceptable risk of
post-operative complications. |
