Ordynator: dr n med. Janusz Gluza

Summary: Capsule rupture during cataract surgery sometimes makes insertion of the IOL impossible. This is where transscleral fixation is used. Iris-suture fixation is also an alernative.
Materials and Methods: A foldable IOL (Acry Sof) was implanted with iris-suture fixation in 5 patients using the McCannel technique. Satisfactory results were achieved in all patients.
Conclusions: The implemented method is relatively easy to carry out, not too time consuming and can be performed by an intermediate surgeon. Contrary to transscleral fixation it doesn’t require a large incision.

Key words: McCannel suture fixation of IOL, secondary implantation of IOL, iris fixation of an AcrySof.
