Summary: Purpose: To evaluate IFN- g concentration in tear fluid in non-SS dry eye.
Material and methods: Tear samples were collected from 22 non-SS dry eye patients aged 33-55, and 15 controls aged 30-50. Cytokine levels were determined by ELISA.
Results: The concentration of IFN-g in tear fluid in non-SS dry eye patients was 7.44±2.75 pg/ml, and 4.72±1.16 pg/ml in controls.
Conclusions: IFN-g concentration in tear fluid is significantly higher in non-SS dry eye patients than controls. These results suggest that INF-g may play a role in the immune-based inflammatory pathogenesis of non-SS dry eye.
