| Summary: |
Purpose:
Retrospective analysis of patients’ age qualified for
antiglaucoma surgery – trabeculectomy.
Material and methods: Age, sex, kind of primary
glaucoma of patients requiring trabeculectomy and
hospitalization in the Municipal Hospital in Gdynia
between 1992-2003 were analysed.
Correlation between the incidence of glaucoma requiring
trabeculectomy and age is described.
Results: 865 patients with primary glaucoma, 614
with POAG and 251 with PACG were hospitalized during 12
years. 60.34% of them were over 60 years old. 163
trabeculectomies were performed in patients of age
between 28 and 90, including 73 patients with POAG and
90 with PACG. In the examined group there were 72.39%
(118) patients over 60 years old (81 women and 37 men).
The average age of them was 65. The majority of
trabeculectomies (42.94%) were carried out in the age
group: 61-70 (28 of them with POAG and 42 with PACG).
Conclusions: The clinical observations indicate a
significant influence of age upon development and
progression of glaucoma changes. Trabeculectomies were
the most common operations performed between 61 and 70
years old. |
