Summary: Purpose: Searching for risk factors different than age for PEX development and considering whether PEX could be the early phase of Alzheimer's disease.
Material and methods: In our study we examined 75 patients (45 women and 30 men) with PEX syndrome. We studied the association between PEX and: glaucoma, arterial hypertension, iris colour, cholesterolaemia, ischaemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic duodenal and gastric ulcer disease and smoking. Patients were asked to do Mini Mental Test Examination (MMTE).
Conclusion: Risk factors of atherosclerotic diseases may be also presented in PEX. Almost all patients had hypercholesterolaemia, over 25% had diabetes mellitus or arterial hypertension, 62% were smokes. Over 75% of patients with PEX had light iris (blue or green). Most of them had update on mild cognitive impairment.
