| Summary: |
Aim: the aim of the
study was to establish the efficiency of
phacoemulsification combined with trabeculectomy in
patients with cataract and glaucoma.
Material and methods: 126 patients (180 eyes)
with cataract and glaucoma, who were operated between
1998 and 2004 were enclosed in the study. The follow-up
time ranged from 1 year to 5 years. Intraocular pressure
and visual acuity were analysed.
Results: Mean intarocular pressure after
phacotrabeculectomy decreased from 18.9 mmHg to 13.9
mmHg. Visual acuity improvement was achieved in 88.8% of
eyes.
Conclusions: Phacoemulsification combined with
trabeculectomy is safe and effective method of treatment
in patients with coexisting cataract and glaucoma:
decreases visual rehabilitation period and ensures
long-term postoperative intarocular pressure control. |
