| Summary: |
Purpose: The aim of
the study is to explain and analyse weakened
accomodation among children and find out whether
incorrect accomodation concerns both eyes or comprises
only one eye with esotropia. We are also curious about
correlation between visual defects.
Material and methods: 36 patients between 8 to 12
years of age were selected to the medical examination of
near points. Each of them had esotropia. They were given
special examination concerning their visual acuity of
far and near points, measurement of strabismus angle,
visibility of both left and right eye, examination of
near point in each eye. We examined their refraction
after sequential administration of atropine eye-drops.
All patients were divided into 3 groups according to the
degree of refraction error (small, moderate, severe
hypermetropia).
Results: First analysis showed difference between
distance of the point in the eye with strabismus and the
leading one. The near point of the eye with strabismus
was located further, what proved that accomodation was
smaller. All results were analyzed statistically and the
result was significant. Additionally, we did not find
any correlation between their visual defects.
Conclusions: 1. Esotropic eye has weaker
accomodation. 2. Accomodation is not dependent on the
size of refractive errors in the group of patients with
hypermetropia. |
