| Summary: |
Purpose: The aim of
the study was to evaluate the most common causes of
neuropathy, risk factors due to gender, age, general
diseases, the season of the optic neuropathy occurrence
as well as the effects of therapies used. The received
data was statistically analyzed.
Material and methods: In this retrospective study
183 patients with non-traumatic optic nerve neuropathy,
hospitalized in Department of Ophthalmology in Białystok
during period 1990-2001 were analyzed.
Results: Non-traumatic optic nerve neuropathy in
almost 40% of cases leads to irreversible vision loss.
Treatment with steroids seems to have only the
psychological effect, while the statistic analysis shows
no significant effect on the final visual acuity. |
