| Summary: |
In the management of
glaucoma individual risk factors should be taken into
consideration. Glaucoma in patients with vascular risk
factors requires more complicated approach. Treatment
should be aimed not only at intraocular pressure
lowering, but also at improving impaired retrobulbar
blood flow to prevent further damage to the optic nerve.
Medical therapy plays an important role in the
successful management of this condition. This article
describes commonly used pharmacologic agents: â-blockers,
topical carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, prostaglandin
analogues and alpha- adrenergic agonists with focus on
ocular blood flow effects of these agents. |
