Age-related Macular
Degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of legal
blindness among elderly over 65 years of age.
Pharmacological treatment, photocoagulation or
photodynamic therapy can only delay disease progression.
The new invasive methods of treatment offer not only the
perspective for visual function preservation but also
the chance for central vision restoring. The authors
describe surgical techniques used in AMD treatment: TPA
and gas injection, neovascular membranes removal,
retinal pigment epithelium translocation, limited and
360 degree macula rotation. |
