Summary: We present our own results of transpupillary thermotherapy (TTT) treatment in the wet form of Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD). The treated group were patients with contraindications to photodynamic therapy. Most of them had oversized lesions with low visual acuity. 60% of the patients had occult with no classic type of choroidal neovascularization. The mean age was 74 years and the average follow-up period was 23 months.
The results showed stabilization or improvement in 81% of cases with predominantly classic CNV, 60% of cases with minimally classic CNV and 71% of cases with occult with no classic CNV.
Our results indicate that TTT is a valuable type of procedure and in some advanced cases may be a good alternative to photodynamic therapy.
