| Summary: |
analysis of adverse
reactions to fluorescein angiography after intravenous
injection of 5 ml 10% fluorescein sodium salt.
Material and Methods: the study group comprises 630
patients, aged between 15 and 90 years (the average of
60.2 years). The group consisted of 372 women (59%) and
258 men (41%).
Results: in 47 patients (7.5%) adverse reactions
occurred after intravenous injection of fluorescein.
These were: nausea in 29 patients (4.6%), vomiting - in
4 (0.6%), dizziness in 5 patients (0.8%), syncope in 6
patients (1%) and allergic skin manifestations in 5
patients (0.8%). Two persons suffered two adverse
reactions at the same time: one person had nausea and
dizziness, the other had nausea and syncope.
Conclusions: fluorescein angiography is a safe method,
with rare side effects (7.5%) which cease autonomously.
However some serious complications, though not frequent,
have been described in the literature: anaphylactic
collapse, acute myocardial infarction and pulmonary
edema. |
