| Summary: |
Central serous
chorioretinopathy (CSC) is characterized by serous
retinal detachment localized in the macular region due
to the breakdown in the outer blood-retinal barrier (at
the retinal pigment epithelium – RPE). Type A
personality (competitive drive, sense of urgency,
aggressive nature, and hostile temperament) may be a
risk factor for its’ development. Most cases of CSC are
self-limited. Vision usually returns to normal, although
many patients have subtle changes in central or color
vision. Patients often develop recurrent leaks in one or
both eyes over the years. Chronic and recurrent CSC can
be visually disabling in these patients. Macular RPE
atrophy with associated atrophic photoreceptor
degeneration and choroidal neovascularization (CNV) may
accompany chronic and recurrent cases.
We present cause of 45 years old male patient with
chronic CSC with severe visual loss up to the light
perception, in whom we performed photodynamic therapy (PDT).
Our analysis confirm, that in difficult and more
advanced lesions due to chronic CSC PDT performing can
be effective.
Verteporfin therapy regimen in eyes with chronic CSC
demands further investigation. |
