Role of the Nutrition in AMD Prevention and Treatment

Summary: Nutrition is one of the important factors of human health. The impact of nutrition on manifestation and progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has recently become a relevant topic. A number of studies described that regular consumption of vegetables, fruits and fish play an important role in AMD prevention, because they are the source of lutein, zeaxantin, omega 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids and antioxidants. All patients with higher risk of AMD and with AMD should be informed about the benefits of well balanced diet.
