Summary: Purpose: To investigate results of own modification of the standard trabeculectomy with uveoscleral outflow.
Material and methods: 35 eyes with glaucoma underwent trabeculectomy with the uveoscleral outflow from March 2005 to March 2006. The preoperative IOP ranged from 14.6 mmHg to 27.9 mmHg (average 21.25 mmHg). We presented our method of surgical treatment and the postoperative complications.
Results: Patients were followed-up for a period from 4 to 12 months. The modified procedure improved IOP control while secondarily reducing dependence on subconjunctival outflow to minimize bleb size along with blebrelated discomfort and complication. The IOP lower than 14 mmHg (8-14 mmHg) was achieved in 80.1% eyes. Hypotony was observed in 2.8% of eyes. Increased IOP (above than 19 mmHg) was observed in 5.7% of eyes. Only a few early postoperative complications such as: anterior chamber shallowing, choroidal detachment, hyphema, hypotony were observed.
Conclusions: We suggest that the new version of trabeculectomy with the aqueous outflow via the uveoscleral pathway have good results and is a safe glaucoma surgery method.
