| Summary: |
The purpose of this study
was to compare efficacy in lowering intraocular pressure
(IOP) by 2% carteolol, topically administered in two
different forms: standard (2% Atreoptic) – twice daily
and formulated with alginate with prolonged eye delivery
(2% Carteol LP) – once daily in patients with priamry
open angle glaucoma (POAG). This comparison was
performed by measuring daily IOP curve with Pascal
dynamic contour tonometer. We found no statistically
significant differences in hipotension activity between
these two forms of the drug, exept 3.00 pm measurement,
indicating better IOP reduction by 2% Carteol LP. The
differences in daily IOP fluctuations were also not
significant. We assumed that 2% carteolol formulated
with alginate is similarily effective and topically
tolerated as its standandard form and it may be
alternatively used in POAG therapy. |
