| Summary: |
Long-standing diabetes in
majority of patients leads to pathological changes in
the visual organ. Diabetic retinopathy is the main cause
of decreased visual acuity, or even vision loss.
Recently, it is postulated that chronic inflammation is
involved in the diabetic retinopathy and
neovascularization pathogenesis.
Results of many studies suggest that subclinical
inflammation underlies the diabetic retinopathy
development. Moreover, it was found that in patients
with type 2 diabetes mellitus, numerous inflammatory
markers concentration is increased, including
proinflammatory cytokines. In this paper the role of
inflammation in the diabetic retinopathy pathogenesis
was described. |
