Tadeusz Krwawicz
(1910-1988)| is a word famous Polish ophthalmologist.
After graduating from Medical Academy in Lwów he gained
first experience in Department of Ophthalmology with
professor Adam Bednarski. He was mobilized in 1944 and
was ordered to go to Lublin. After the world war II he
worked as a lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology
of Maria Skłodowska-Curie Medical University.
In 1948 he started organizing ophthalmology department
as its head. In 1951 he became an associate professor
and then in 1957 professor. He also worked intensely as
a doctor, lecturer and scientist.
Tadeusz Krwawicz was interested in experienced surgery,
immunology, histology as well as biochemistry of the
ocular tissues especially cornea. He was one of the
first ophthalmologist in Poland who dealt with
keratoplasty and refractive surgery. One of his
inventions was also lamellar keratoplasty as well as
inventing myopia surgical treatment technique.
The real revolution however in the world of
ophthalmology was inventing a new method in the
treatment of diseases associated with cataract
cryoextraction. Krwawicz was a member of Polish and
international societies. He worked as a practitioner to
the end of his life. He died on August 17th 1988. |
