| Summary: |
Angle closure glaucoma
concerns a large, varied group of patients, whose
increased intraocular pressure is a result of blockade
of aqueous humour outflow. It is caused by partial or
total anterior angle chamber closure by peripheral part
of iris. In this case the mechanism of glaucomatous
optic neuropathy is secondary to anatomic condition of
the eye in which the angle closure is primary. Angle
closure glaucoma is usually divided in two groups:
primary and secondary. There was no pathology found that
would be a foundation to changes in primary angle
closure glaucoma. Diagnosis in both cases is mostly
through exploration of the anterior segment, especially
the anterior chamber angle. Ultrasound biomicroscopy and
optical coherence tomography are used for diagnosis. The
introduction of proper treatment, mainly laser or
surgical operation, enables patients to be cured or
least to stop disease progression. |
