| Summary: |
Purpose: To
evaluate diagnostic usefulness and compare morphometric
results of Optical Coherent Tomography (Stratus – OCT)
and Heidelberg Retinal Tomography (Heidelberg Enginering
GmBH-HRT) in patients with normal IOP, ocular
hypertension, glaucoma, myopia and large optic discs.
Design: Randomized study.
Material and Methods: A total number of 70 eyes
of 50 individuals were enrolled in the study. Each
patient underwent complete ophthalmologic examination.
10 patients with wrong fixation, astigmatism larger than
2 D, myopia larger than -5 D and cataract were excluded
from the study. We divided patients into 5 study groups:
1-control group with healthy eyes and negative glaucoma
history (n = 12), 2 – myopic eyes group (n = 10), 3 –
large optic disc group (n = 7 eyes), 4 – ocular
hypertension group (n = 10), 5 – open-angle glaucoma
group (n = 31). Diagnostic assessment of stereoscopic
optic disc analysis and RNFL thickness was performed
with Heidelberg Retinal Tomography – HRT II (Heidelberg
Engineering GmBH, Dossenheim, Germany) and Optical
Coherence Tomography (Carl Zeiss Meditec Inc, Dublin,
California, USA, Stratus, 4.0) and disc area, cup area,
rim area and C/D area ratio were analyzed and verified
using t-Student test and a measure of linear correlation
(Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient).
Results: In analyzed 5 study groups we observed
mostly positive correlation of mean optic nerve head
parameters measured with HRT and OCT. t-Student analysis
excluded possibility of comparison of 1 parameter
measured with both devices. Disc area was statistically
larger in OCT than in HRT. The diagnostic performances
of HRT II and OCT were significantly influenced by the
severity of glaucomatous damage. |
