| Summary: |
Anterior uveitis is the
most common intraocular inflammation and its’
etiopathogenesis is still insufficiently understood. It
is supposed that bacterial infections, especially
Gram-negative, may take part in the acute anterior
uveitis initiation in predisposed subjects.
It was shown that TLR-4 and CD14 receptors are expressed
on the iris and ciliary body cells in humans. Both
molecules represent key receptors for bacterial
endotoxins (lipopolysaccharides). This suggests possible
endotoxin involvement in the acute anterior uveitis
etiopathology. The paper presents an overview on the
anterior uveitis etiology, the significance of HLA-B27
antigen and bacterial endotoxins as predisposing factor
in acute anterior uveitis. |
