| Summary: |
Purpose: The aim of
our study was to determine the results and complications
of endoscopic dacrocystorhinostomy (DCR) performed in
patients with postsaccal stenosis of lacrimal pathways.
Material and methods: The study included 16
patients (13 women and 3 men) with unilateral epiphora,
who were admitted to the Department of Otolaryngology
Medical University in Bialystok for the nasolacrimal
duct obstruction surgery. The level of obstruction in
the lacrimal drainage system was confirmed by an
irrigation of the lacrimal pathways. In all patients
endoscopic DCR with mucosal flap were performed.
Results: The follow-up period was 6 to 18 months
after surgery. The procedure was successful in 87.5% of
cases. A lower intraoperative complications (bleeding
and painful surgery) was observed in two patients. In
this two person restenosis was found 2 months after DCR.
Conclusion: Endoscopic DCR is safe and successful
method of treatment in patients with acquired
nasolacrimal duct obstruction. The success rate of DCR
depends on proper patients qualification and precision
in surgical technique. |
