| Summary: |
Purpose: Evaluation
of anatomical and functional state of eyes in children
and youth patients after developmental cataract surgery
and primary foldable intraocular lens implantation (IOL).
Material and Methods: Eighty eyes of 46 patients
(25 girls and 21 boys) in age from 4 to 18 years
(mean10.2 ± 1.3), after primary intraocular lens
implantation (IOL), were examined. The age of children
at the moment of surgery was from 3 to 17, mean 7.02 (±
0.9) years. Visual acuity (V/A), intraocular pressure (IOP),
axial length of eyeball (AL), refractive error(RE) and
optical axis transparency were evaluated after follow-up
mean 3.6 (± 0.6) years.
Results: Best corrected V/A for distance was mean
0.6 ±0.07, and for near 1.1 ±0.23. The values of IOP
were normal mean 15.3 (± 0.37) mmHg. In all eyes cornea
was transparent. Mean axial length of eyeball was 22.32
mm (± 0.26), refractive error was mean +0.24 Dsph (±
0.50). Secondary cataract occurred in 22 eyeballs
(27.5%) and Nd: YAG posterior capsulotomy after mean
33.3 (± 8.3) months, were performed.
Conclusions: Primary implantation of foldable
intraocular lenses after developmental cataract surgery
is good method of aphakia correction and enables
achieving good visual function in children and
adolescents. |
