| Summary: |
Patients compliance with
the prescribed antiglaucoma therapy is of key importance
in effective treatment of this disease. Usually
ophthalmologists underestimate this problem. Therefore
in Poland in recent years two studies have been
performed to evaluate the significance of noncompliance
in our country. In the first study both glaucoma
patients and treating them ophthalmologists fulfilled
two anonymous questionnaires. It was multicenter study
performed in 9 departments in Poland. 8% of patients
assessed that they forget to instill eye-drops at least
once a day and 19% of them once in a week.
Ophthalmologists evaluated the compliance of their
patients as very good in 47% and good in 49%. In the
second study compliance of glaucoma patients using
Travatan eye-drops was assessed with the use Travalert
electronic monitoring system. This study have shown that
43% glaucoma patients were noncompliant with the
prescribed treatment regimen with 23% omitting more than
10 instillations in two months. The results of these
studies have shown that noncompliance is a significant
problem in glaucoma therapy in Poland. |
