| Summary: |
The aim of the study was
evaluation the therapeutic methods efficacy in patients
with diagnosed malignant glaucoma treated in the
Department of Ophthalmology Medical University of Warsaw.
Material and Methods: 14 patients (17 eyes) with
diagnosed malignant glaucoma were included into the
study and retrospectively analyzed. All patients were
females.
Medical history and results of ophthalmologic
examination including: VA, IOP, slit lamp examination (especially
anterior chamber depth), gonioscopy and optic disc
morphology were analyzed.
All patients underwent following intraocular procedures:
trabeculectomy, cataract surgery (Phaco/ ECCE) or
simultaneous cataract extraction and trabeculectomy. In
76.5% of cases before surgery refractive error-
hypermetropia was present.
Results and Conclusions: Only in 12% of cases
pharmacologic treatment using 3 and more medications was
sufficient to control glaucoma progression. In the
remaining group of patients another surgical/ laser
procedure including ppVE, lens extraction, YAG
capsulotomy/ hyaloidotomy, CFK and consecutive
trabeculectomy should be performed. |
