| Summary: |
Purpose: To compare
three different methods of measuring corneal thickness
(central, paracentral and peripheral) and three
different methods of measuring anterior chamber depth.
Materials and Methods: In 42 patients (84 eyes)
corneal thickness was measured in the center and at
eight meridians at distances of 1.0, 2.5 and 3.5 mm from
the center with ultrasound pachymetry, Orbscan IIz and
OCT-Visante. Anterior chamber depth was measured with
Orbscan IIz, OCT-Visante and IOL Master. The results
were compared and analyzed statistically.
Results: Mean CCT measured by Orbscan IIz, OCT
Visante and ultrasound pachymetry was 561.54 ± 34.60 µm,
540.71 ± 30.62 µm and 557.37 ± 32.81 µm respectively.
Non-contact measurements by Orbscan II and OCT Visante
were significantly correlated. The differences between
the results of peripheral pachymetry measured by Orbscan
IIz and OCT Visante were all statistically significant
(p<0.000001). ACD measured by Orbscan IIz, OCT Visante
and IOL Master were 3.99 ± 0.47 mm, 3.50 ± 0.46 mm and
3.47 ± 0.44 mm respectively and the differences were
significantly correlated.
Conclusions: The results of biometric
measurements obtained with devices employing different
technologies are usually correlated, but the differences
between single measurements and mean values can be
statistically significant. Therefore the results
obtained with different methods should not be directly
compared and not be used interchangeably. |
