| Summary: |
Purpose: Aim of the
study is a comparison of retinal thickness values in
macular region in healthy individuals using retina
thickness analyzer RTA and optical coherence tomography
(OCT).
Material and Method: Seventeen healthy subjects
(33 eyes) 30 to 58 years old (average age 42.6 years)
underwent complete ophthalmologic examination and also
retinal thickness analysis with RTA and OCT analyzers.
In particular, foveal average thickness, peri-foveal
average thickness and posterior pole average thickness
were determined. The data were statistically evaluated.
Results: The average values of foveal average
thickness (RTA 165.5 ± 14.3 µm; OCT 237.0 ± 20.7 µm),
peri-foveal average thickness (RTA 189.0 ± 14.4 µm; OCT
289.4 ± 13.6 µm) and posterior pole average thickness (RTA
183.8 ± 13.7 µm; OCT 269.0 ± 10.9 µm) were different
with statistical significance. The RTA retinal thickness
values were higher than those determined by OCT. A
linear correlation between the RTA and OCT values was
established.
Conclusions: The retinal thickness in macular
region measured by RTA is lower than that measured by
OCT. The difference is statistically significant. |
