| Summary: |
Adult-onset foveomacular
vitelliform dystrophy (AFVD) is rare macular disease,
that usually results in slow progressive bilateral
vision loss. These bilateral macular lesions are usually
symmetrical, grayish-yellow, round or oval-shaped,
mildly elevated. The onset of the disease is usually
between 40 and 60 years of age. Diagnostic testing for
AFVD includes fluorescein angiography, EOG and optical
coherence tomography (OCT). OCT shows typically the
vitelliform lesion located between retinal pigment
epithelium layer (RPE) and photoreceptors layer and is
a very important tool in AFVD diagnosis, differentiation
and monitoring. |
