| Summary: |
The 23-gauge Intrector
allows the performance of a limited core pars plana
vitrectomy, which removes 0.5 to 1 ml of the vitreous
body. Drugs, and/or air or gas can be injected into the
space created. This opens new opportunities for the
treatment of macular oedema associated with wet AMD,
diabetes, or branch/central retinal vein occlusion.
Neurofilaments can be measured from the vitreous body
obtained: these are considered a useful new biomarker of
retinal degeneration. Furthermore, the material obtained
can be used to perform bacterial
or cytological analysis of the uveitis. |
