| Summary: |
On the basis of the
literature current medical and surgical methods of the
proliferative diabetic retinopathy treatment are
presented.
The glycemic and blood pressure control are the most
important for optimal treatment of patients with
diabetic ocular complications. Panretinal
photocoagulation and focal/grid laser are still gold
standard in the proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDE)
and diabetic macular edema (DME) treatment. In PDE and
DME therapy, corticosteroids and anti-VEGF agents are
safe and useful in the short-term follow-up and need
more studies with longer follow-up period. The number of
microvitrectomies in PDE will grow-up because of good
visual outcomes and less invasive surgery in comparison
to standard (20 gauge) vitrectomy. |
