The article presents the state of medical knowledge in
ancient Greece. Sacred medicine related to the cult of Asclepius and the origin of secular
medicine is described. Ophthalmological aspects concerning the anatomy of the eye,
diagnosis and treatment of ocular diseases are emphasized. |
