| Summary: |
Purpose: Evaluation
of the secretion of the tears in young CF patients.
Material and methods: We examined group of 18 CF
patients and control group of 18 patients. The patients
were evaluated systemically and examined for surface
changes and Schirmer test.
Results: We observed abnormal Schirmer test in
81% of CF patients. The mean value of Schirmer test was
9.6±5.5 mm in the CF group and 25.0±3.0 mm in the
control group. The difference was statistically
significant.
Conclusions: The cystic fibrosis patients have
the hyposecretion of tear fluid. Schirmer test may be
used in evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of the
ocular changes in CF patients. |
