| Summary: |
Purpose: The aim of
the thesis is to evaluate the correlation between the
length of the curvature radius of the cornea and the
extent of myopia as well as the investigating the
connection between the age of the patient and the
curvature radius of the cornea.
Material and methods: The examination covered 400
myopic eyes, where in addition to refractive error there
were no other pathological changes. The average age of
patients was 26. The patients had refractive error
corrected with glasses, they had not been wearing
contact lenses before, and had not been subjected to any
vision correction surgery. The objective examination of
refraction was done using the autorefractometer Nippon
8100/9100, the subjective refraction using the foropter,
and the measurement of the curvature radius of the
cornea using the Javala ophthalmometer. The correlation
between the average curvature radius of the cornea and
the extent of myopia was considered. The arithmetic
average of the two major curvature radiuses of the
cornea was assumed as the average curvature radius of
the cornea.
Conclusions: It was observed that the greater the
myopia, the shorter the average curvature radius of the
cornea, thus the cornea has a steeper shape. No
correlation between the length of an average curvature
radius of the cornea and the age of the patient has been
observed. |
