| Summary: |
The aim of our
study is to evaluate application of therapeutic contact
lens for corneal edema in patients waiting for
keratoplasty.
Material: Group of 22 patients with corneal edema
(age from 65 to 85 years) included 12 pseudophakic, 3
aphakic and 7 patients with Fuchs’ dystrophy.
Practitioners reported pain relief efficacy. All
patients were fitted with a silicone hydrogel contact
lens.
Outcomes: 12 patients (54.5%) reported complete,
5 (22.7%) high and 2 (9.0%) moderate pain relief, one
didn’t observe difference, in two cases complaints were
more intense.
Complications: were associated with bacterial (1
patient) keratitis, corneal erosion caused by mechanical
impairment (1 patient).
Conclusion: Therapeutic contact lens fitting for
corneal edema is effective part of management in
patients prepared to keratoplasty. |
