| Summary: |
The authors compared
results of microbiological tests of two groups of
patients wearing contact lenses. Group 1 consisted of 25
patients (50 eyes) who used silicone hydrogel contact
lenses in true extended wear mode. Group 2 consisted of
25 patients (50 eyes) who used daily hydrogel contact
lenses. The conjunctival sacs of all patients were
bacteriologically assessed before and after a month-long
wearing of both kinds of contact lenses. The silicone
hydrogel contact lenses were used in true extended wear
mode, whereas the hydrogel contact lenses were used in
daily wear. The microbiological assessment of both kinds
of lenses included an in-depth analysis of their
bacterial flora and tests concerning the amount of
lenses covered by bacteria colonies in both groups. |
