| Summary: |
Aim: Analysis of
ocular complications and discomfort in patients after
bone marrow transplantation (BMT) before and after dry
eye syndrome treatment.
Material and methods: 40 patients, who underwent
bone marrow transplantation were examined for different
ocular disorders between 2004 and 2006. There was 23
women and 17 men aged from 22 to 57, mean 36.1 ± 8.2
years. We analyzed BCVA, Schirmer’s tests, Amsler test,
intraocular pressure, endothelial cell density, corneal
pachymetry and corneal disorders. Patients were also
asked for following signs: pain, foreign body sensation,
photophobia, increased tear volume, blurred vision.
Results: Dry eye syndrome was recognized in all
patients in various severity. Artificial tears or
autologous serum were supplemented, in 10% of cases
occlusion plugs were applied. We observed improvement in
BCVA and decrease in complaints number.
Conclusion: BMT patients were a very challenging
group of patients, which can be treated successfully
with various tears supplements. |
