Purpose: To
evaluate the clinical results of hard gas-permeable
reverse-geometry contact lens fitting in eyes with
irregular cornea and keratectasia after laser in situ
keratomileusis (LASIK).
Methods: Seven eyes of six patients with corneal
irregularity after LASIK surgery were examined. A
reverse-geometry Acculens New Vision ortholens design
and multicurve LS-9 Lens - Serwis design were selected
for the fitting. The base curve radius was determined by
the patient’s corneal shape, in particular its flatness
and corneal toricity. The base curve radius and
peripheral parameters were tested using fluorescein
test. The contact lens fitting characteristics,
keratotopography and visual acuity were evaluated.
Results: Reverse-geometry Acculens New Vision
lenses were fitted in 6 eyes with cornea irregularity
and multicurve LS-9was fitted in 1 case with
keratectasia. The base curve radius of the
reverse-geometry lenses ranged from 8.44 to 9.38 mm.
Mid-periphery was about 4 D steeper than the central
base curve, ranged from 7.67 to 8.44 mm. The base curve
radius of the multicurve lens was 7.5 mm. Visual acuity
improved to 0.8 – 1.0, all patients were totally
satisfied with the fitting comfort.
Conclusion: The reverse-geometry and multicurve
contact lens fitting based on topographic data and slit
lamp evaluation allowed good visual results in patients
with irregular cornea and keratectasia after laser in
situ keratomileusis. |
