| Summary: |
This year there is a
jubilee of the Professor Stefania Szymankiewicz
scientific work. She is a distinguished ophthalmologist,
forerunner of contactology in Poland and an expert in
this field. The objective of this report is to present
professor’s professional life and scientific as well as
educational work. The work is based on biographies of
didactic dictionaries, publicized reports as well as
articles and opinions of scientific authorities.
It is an honour to present professor Szymankiewicz’s
persistent contactology work conducted on the turn of
the centuries and honoured with a membership of Polish
Society of Ophthalmology. Professor Szymankiewicz’s
passion for the scientific research along with a wide
scope of the academic discipline is fruitful in a
skilful interchange of contactology and strabology that
positively influenced the patients. It also inspired
professor Szymankiewicz to establish Department of
Contact Lenses of the Polish Society of Ophthalmology.
The abovementioned work allowed professor Szymankiewicz
to become a forerunner of Polish contactology.
The status of this outstanding scholar that is known for
her publicized work and numerous monographs enriched a
program of XXX ECLSO Congress in Antalya in 2000.
Moreover, professor Szymankiewicz has been repeatedly
awarded with, to name only few, Golden Cross of Merit,
an Award for Exemplary Health Service Worker and a Red
Rose Award. She is a role model for her students and
apprentices. She is currently using an innovative method
of positron annihilation while working on an application
of physical properties of contact lenses. |
